Trick or Treat

Lots of exciting things happening this week! Tomorrow is the Halloween Character Parade at Jackson’s school. I’m going down to help get the kids through the building (I’m so glad his daycare is in my building!) Monday night will be the official trick or treating. This year Jackson has two costumes…wonder if anyone can guess what they are?
Pictures to follow soon…

Picture Day!

Thursday was picture day at Jackson's school, so last weekend we were on an all out search for the perfect outfit for him to wear since this would also be a Christmas picture. After just about wearing Nana out at the mall, we found it and were on our way.

When Thursday rolled around, as always, we were in a mad dash to get out the door. I dressed Jackson in his picture day outfit and packed his regular clothes to change into. (He also has a wedding to attend in a few weeks and I'd like this outfit to make it through Christmas.) I get him dressed and hair fixed just right and we are out the door. I was happy to see when we arrived at the school that no one was waiting and we could go right in and get his picture over with! He posed perfectly and only took about five minutes to get the three shots they take. Knowing that I have limited time, I take Jackson in the bathroom and help him change. He goes to his room and I am off to work.

Well, at the end of the day, I go down to his school to pick him up. He meets me in the hall and to my surprise he has faded green marker on his face. On closer inspection I find it's on his face, neck, hands and the shirt he is wearing for the first time! After talking with his teacher, I find out that they also had a class picture done. And yes, my son, the brilliant child that he is, posed for this class picture proudly displaying his "artwork". I'm curious as to the reaction of the other parents when they discover that Shrek is a member of their child's class!

Several thoughts did go through my head as I was standing there and I was SO glad that I changed his outfit and took the good clothes with me. I couldn't be mad at him and truthfully I was trying really hard not to laugh, but did you really think it was a good idea to color yourself green? His response: But green is my favorite color! And now we know...

Sound the Alarm...Firefighter Jackson is Turning 4!!!

This year was the first that Jackson was truly into the "theme" of his birthday party. Needless to say we went all out and everything was related to Firefighters. The preparations started a month out, because I wasn't sure what was available and since he notices every detail, I had to be on my "A" game for this one. I took vacation two days prior to the party to make sure I had plenty of time for all that was planned. Thankfully, Party City had a whole section of firefighter themed party supplies which made it SO much easier than I was expecting!

In years past, I have had a local bakery make the cake, but this year I think I lost my mind and decided I would MAKE the cake. Scary thought, I know! So Friday morning, after Jacob and Jackson left for work and school I turned my kitchen into a bakery and went to town. Over six hours later this was the finished product!

Fortunately, I had help and on Saturday we just had to set up and wait on the guests to arrive. I know Jacob was happy that he only needed to go get ice since somehow Jackson's birthday always falls on Texas-OU weekend.

All in all the birthday was a success. Jackson spent the remainder of the day and evening engrossed in all his gifts (and yes, they were all pretty much firefighter related).

Thanks to all that came and celebrated with us! We hope to see you again next year!!!

The Background

Since we have had so many interesting incidents with Jackson recently, I thought it might be a good idea to capture these moments. Some are quite funny, while others are down right embarrassing.
